Click the Share function on the Facebook icon below the post
And Confirm

Social Media Tools in Australian Libraries

Here are three Australian Libraries I found using different social media tools to promote their library and share library information (upcoming events, book reviews) and more.

State Library of Victoria with Youtube.
They upload videos to share the experiences of staff and visitors in the library, the happenings in the library and showings of some parts of the library.

Brimbank Libraries with Facebook.
Brimbank Libraries posts information on any updates at all 5 branches, ucoming book events, competitions, readings and images of the patrons using and enjoying each library.

Australian Institute of Criminology - The JV Barry Library with Twitter.
This Institute uses Twitter to share recent information and updates on crime and justice news, reports and services with relating photos and videos as well.

Social Media: Copyright Implications

When re-sharing an re-postings become a legal risk.

This has become an issue when the sharing of information on social media platforms turns viral.
Also when you post videos, images and texts on social media platforms such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and the like, you have transferred your copyright to them under the Term of Use clause.

So make sure you:

Cite and reference the original person(s) information that are not your own

Understand and Follow the Copyright guidelines when copying materials online.

And know that you will mostly likely not win against those companies once your material has been posted.

Social Media Etiquette

To me, Social Media etiquette shouldn't be any different to etiquette when interacting with people offline. Sometimes I see many comments on the internet that just snowballs from a slip of the tongue (or fingers in this case) and becomes downright abusive.

My views on this:

Be Polite - Don't be Rude and show some courtesy
Don't upload inappropriate photos of others without permission
Consider the context you're in when posting/commenting - some things that are appropriate in your personal life may not be appropriate in your professional setting

Social Media: Privacy Issues

When we put our personal information and photos up on Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, to name a few, it is out there. For the world to see! Because the terms and conditions states that the information and photos of yourself become their property.

Word of advice:
Separate your personal and business online persona.
Keep comments about your workplace/colleagues away from print if you do not want them to find out.
Think twice about the photos you are deciding to post.

Based on the movie franchise, 'The Librarians' tv drama series is about a group of special librarians saving and collecting ancient artifacts from around the world working secretly beneath Gotham’s Metropolitan Public Library.

Just re-watched the movie Pitch Perfect and had to listen to this version of  'When I'm Gone' with cups again.

I wish we had these in Australia as well! I would be sitting on this fascinating bookbench with a good old paperback book anytime.
